Governor Reconsiders FCAT as Gauge of Student Success; Lower Achievement Scores for 41 Schools; & New Superintendent Search

The Pinellas County School Board candidates face critical long-term issues affecting testing, student achievement and budget concerns.   Incumbent Janet Clark faces three opponents: Jim Jackson, Shelly Ladd-Gilbert & Elliott Stern; while Rick Scott's appointee, Glen Gilzean (recently endorsed by former Gov. Bush) is challenged by Keisha Bell, Rene Flowers, Corey Givens & Cassandra Jackson; leaving Robin Wikle and Carol Cook in unopposed races.  This is your opportunity to question the candidates if they are willing to accept "second-best" for a superintendent due to poor timing of the search process, or would a national search firm yield a broader pool of applicants?  What would each candidate suggest as a better measure of achievement given the backlash against the FCAT fueled by the recent downgrade in scores for 41 schools?  With a mixed candidate pool for superintendent and a flat economy this is a unique opportunity to question your candidates about their vision for the future of Pinellas County Schools.  Join us in the den to learn more about the future of education in our county.
